Reviews for the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G
The Galaxy A22 is available either with 4G or 5G. Although the 5G model doesn't offer an OLED display, it does provide fast Internet, a versatile camera system, and good performance rates. We take a closer look at Samsung's mid-range phone in our review.

The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is another well balanced if deeply unexciting affordable phone from Samsung. It’s the kind of no frills, no nasty surprises experience you arguably want for around the £200 mark. Its stand out feature is a 48MP main camera that’s capable of taking genuinely decent shots in good lighting, as well as a battery that will see you through two days of light to moderate usage. Where it fails to impress is with its performance, which feels a little slow and creaky even for a budget phone. The display, meanwhile, lacks pop, and the phone as a whole feels a little big and heavy. The good news is that given its age, you’ll likely be able to find the Galaxy A22 5G for significantly less than RRP, and Samsung’s ongoing software support means that it remains a viable choice for the money.

The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G doesn't quite deliver the kind of experience that most people would expect, considering its price and competition. A wide selection of 5G bands would be a good thing to brag about, provided one could actually take advantage of them in India, but I'm pretty sure that by the time we get to use 5G, we will have had multiple successors to this phone. Unfortunately, there's little else to get excited about with the Galaxy A22 5G. In fact, I feel you'd be better served by Samsung's own Galaxy M32 5G or even the Galaxy F62. There's no shortage of good phones from the competition either, and a quick look though our list of the best phones under Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 25,000 should offer plenty of options.

As a phone for the average user, there's very little to fault the Galaxy A22 5G for. The phone offers solid build quality, a good design and also a nice display. It also does well in the battery department and offers cameras that promise good daytime performance as well as low-light photography with the help of the camera's Night Mode. To top it all, it's 5G ready and also packs plenty of power to handle apps of daily use -- I.e of course, if you're looking to not run too many graphics-intensive games on it. Despite there being a lot of options in the segment, the Galaxy A22 5G still manages to emerge as a good option in the sub-Rs 20,000 segments of the market. So, if you're looking for a new 5G phone in this price range, and especially one from Samsung's stables, then this is definitely the device for you.

The Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is a smartphone aimed at budget-minded users and competes against other devices in the Advanced segment ($200 to 399). General specs include an octa-core processor, a 6.6-inch TFT display with FHD+ resolution, 64 GB of internal memory, and a large 5000 mAh battery. The rear camera comprises a primary module with a 48 MP sensor, a 5 MP ultra-wide, and a depth sensor. Let’s see how this combo does in the DXOMARK Camera tests.

Samsung Galaxy A22 5G rips off almost the same specifications as its 4G counterpart but with some downgrades to accommodate for the “5G network”. The battery is well-specced although Samsung should’ve gone for faster charging speed. For an informed decision, Samsung Galaxy A22 5G has a tonne of alternatives such as Samsung Galaxy A32 (FHD, Super AMOLED, 90Hz) while Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro, the Poco X3 Pro, or you can check out Realme 8 5G which scores better than A22 5G on various benchmarking tests even with the same processor. Other alternatives include Redmi Note 10T 5G, Redmi Note 10 5G, and Poco M3 Pro 5G just to mention.

While a few features are missing, the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is still a good option under Rs 20,000 price segment. If you are someone who wants to buy a Samsung phone for general usage, then you can buy this mid-range phone and be prepared for the dawn of 4G.

These days, I’m judging Samsung’s affordable and mid-range phones based on how quickly I want to move back to a flagship device after the review, and the A22 5G passes with flying colors. All I missed were the considerably better cameras you get on flagships – nothing else truly bothered me, which is the highest praise I can give this phone. The A22 5G has a smooth display, excellent performance and battery life, decent main camera, and a cute little design. On the flip side, the software is too basic, an AMOLED screen would have been much better, the bezels should have been smaller, and you’re still having to make do with Samsung’s old and slow 15W charging tech.

Samsung Galaxy A22 5G is a good looking phone with long battery life, support for a number of 5G bands and offers decent performance in terms of multi-tasking. However, at a starting price of Rs 19,999, the smartphone faces tough competition from many lower-priced phones from rival brands as well as Samsung’s own Galaxy M31s, Galaxy M51 and Galaxy F41.

Shots taken under artificial lighting were decent again. The colours looked vibrant, while details were minimal. And the software again struggled to give accurate edge detection. Coming to night mode shots, these pictures looked atrocious. There’s no amount of detailing you can expect, and there’s a smudged effect all over the pictures. Wide-angle in night conditions behaves like a VGA camera with no sort of colours or details. Night mode didn’t make things better either.

And that's kind of leads to the elephant in the room - should you even get a 5G phone for under €250? If you really need 5G in your next device and can't stretch your budget any further, then the Galaxy A22 5G is worth considering. If you can compromise and settle for a 4G model instead, there is much more overall value to be had from other devices in this price range.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

69.79%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
