Xiaomi has unveiled its latest Redmi A5 4G smartphone in the global markets. The company’s new entry-level smartphone comes with a completely new design but retains most of the specifications from the last-generation model, the Redmi A4. More specifically, the dual camera setup has a pill-shaped module, which looks very similar to the iPhone 16. However, specs-wise, there are no significant upgrades here.
The Redmi A5 smartphone is powered by a Unisoc T7250 octa-core processor, paired with up to 4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128 GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, which is further expandable up to 2 TB via microSD card. As for the rear camera setup, it features a 32 MP main sensor (down from a 50 MP sensor of the A4) and an unknown secondary sensor. Upfront, there’s an 8 MP shooter for selfies and video chats.
Speaking of the front, the budget-range smartphone retains the same 6.88-inch IPS LCD display that outputs at 1640 x 720 pixels with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and up to 240 Hz touch sampling rate. Additionally, the panel comes with TUV Rheinland certification for eye protection. The battery capacity of the smartphone is slightly bigger than before. A 5,200 mAh battery (up from the 5,160 mAh battery of the A4) powers the internals and supports 15 W wired charging.
Software-wise, the device runs on Android 15 (Go Edition) out of the box. However, there’s no word on the software support from the brand. Dimensionally, it measures 8.26 mm (0.32 inches) in thickness and weighs just 193 grams (0.42 lbs). Other highlights include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, up to 4 GB of RAM expansion support, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity.
Available in midnight black, lake green, sandy gold, and ocean blue colorways, the Redmi A5 retails at $79. It’s now available for purchase via Xiaomi’s official website and other authorized retailers.
