A new entry-level smartphone from Xiaomi is on the horizon. For context, the company is preparing to flesh out its upper mid-range offering later this week with the Poco F7 Pro and Poco F7 Ultra. While neither will officially arrive until Thursday, Xiaomi has shared performance expectations for both smartphones ahead of time.
According to Sudhanshu Ambhore, Xiaomi plans to complement these pair soon with the Redmi A5 4G, which contains a completely different design from the likes of the Redmi A3X (curr. $85 on Amazon) and Redmi A4. For that price, the Redmi A5 4G will contain a Unisoc T7250 chipset and a 5,200 mAh battery that supports 18 W wired charging with a 171.7 x 77.8 x 8.26 mm housing. The 193 g handset should also arrive with 32 MP rear-facing and 8 MP front-facing cameras, plus an auxiliary rear-facing lens.
On top of that, the Redmi A5 4G will launch in Europe with a 6.88-inch LCD panel running at 720p, 120 Hz and with 1,500 nits peak brightness at its disposal. Although Ambhore has not revealed a launch date yet, he claims that the handset will be available with 4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage for €149 (~$160). Based on the images revealed so far, Xiaomi will be selling the device in black, gold and green launch colours.
