The ~$1,175 Galaxy S25 Ultra debuted with a 200MP main rear camera, compared to 50MP in rivals such as the OnePlus 13, Honor Magic7 Pro and Xiaomi 15 Ultra. However, it now seems that Samsung's rivals are ready to catch up within a generation.
As many as 5 of these companies allegedly plan to integrate 200MP sensors into their next-gen flagships, powered by the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor of the S25 Ultra.
Some current or upcoming flagship smartphones already have cameras of that class-leading resolution, of course, although they tend to found behind periscope zoom lenses instead - such as the alleged world-beater predicted to feature in the impending X200 Ultra.
However, it seems that the "8 Elite Gen 2" will only support 1 200MP camera at a time, as will the competing MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset that might power other premium smartphones.
Therefore, Vivo might still have to choose between switching to a 200MP main shooter or sticking to a telephoto lens of the same resolution in the "X300 Ultra" - although the brand might not have to in the "X400 Ultra", according to the latest leak.
