Xiaomi Redmi A4 5G now official as first Qualcomm Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 smartphone with 5G connectivity and low rumoured starting price
Xiaomi has partnered with Qualcomm to deliver the first Snapdragon 4s Gen 2-powered smartphone, over three months after the chipset's debut. Contrary to pre-release expectations, Xiaomi has decided to use the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 inside the Redmi A4 5G and not an expansion of the Redmi 13 series.
In effect, the first Snapdragon 4s Gen 2-powered smartphone is a successor to the Redmi A3 and Redmi A3x (curr. $94 on Amazon) that debuted earlier this year. However, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 provides the Redmi A4 5G with a 5G chipset, as its name suggests. For reference, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 also contains an Adreno 619L GPU and eight CPU cores, two of which are performance cores.
Additionally, Xiaomi is expected to complement the chipset with a 5,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP rear-facing camera with an auxiliary lens and an 8 MP selfie camera. Moreover, the Redmi A4 5G should feature a 6.8-inch LCD that outputs at 720p; other display specifications remain unknown for now. Reportedly, Xiaomi intends to sell the device for between INR 9,000-10,000 (~$107-$119). Unfortunately, the company has not confirmed a release date yet.
