Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition coming Oct. 30, may glow in the dark
The Nothing Phone (2a) was announced in March 2024 as a cheaper variant of the Nothing Phone (2) released in 2023. Initially available to buy in Black, White, and Milk, Nothing later unveiled a stunning Blue variant exclusive to India, and followed it with a Special Edition that is a mix of colors. Now, it appears another variant is on the way based on the announcement that it will launch the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition this month.

The Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition is the result of a project between Nothing and members of its community. When the project was announced back in March, Nothing said it would be a contest open to fans, allowing them to compete in four categories - hardware design, wallpaper design, packaging design, and marketing design. The winning entries of each category will be used to make the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition.
From the results on Nothing's page for the project, we already have an idea of what the Phone (2a) Community Edition will look like. The winning entry for the hardware design category, dubbed Phosphorescence, was made by Kenta Akasaki & Astrid Vanhuyse. It shows a Nothing Phone (2a) (curr. available on Amazon for $379) with a phosphorescent back which makes the device glow in the dark.
The wallpaper design winner, Andres Mateos; the packaging design winner, Ian Henry Simmonds, and the marketing design winner, Sonya Palma, all have their entries designed around the winning entry for the hardware design.
Nothing's October 30th event will be held in London where it will present the winners, showcase their entries, and launch the special edition device. It is not yet known how many units of the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition will be made available, but it surely won't be a lot.
Save for the color, wallpapers, and retail box, the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition should have the same specifications as the other variants. So you are not missing out on much if you can't get your hands on this special edition.
