Ranking: Best 2-in-1 laptops with pen support
Q4 2024 update.
Many of the latest notebooks can also be ordered with a touchscreen, but only a few of them are also suitable for input using a stylus. Find the top-rated convertibles and tablets for use with a stylus.Marc Herter (translated by DeepL / Ninh Duy) Published 🇩🇪 🇳🇱 ...
Convertibles score points for their versatility, i.e. they can be used as a notebook with all the advantages of a conventional keyboard and as a tablet thanks to their integrated touch display. Many of these devices also support active styluses, making them ideal for graphic designers, image editors and digital artists. Anyone can also create handwritten notes on these 2-in-1 laptops. The following list ranks current convertible PCs that can be used with active styluses.
We consider a good display to be the most important feature for artists. To be as mobile as possible, the convertibles should have long battery life and a low weight. We rank them in this list according to these criteria. Unfortunately, we (have to) disregard the quality of the stylus. This is usually subjective and difficult to put into measurable figures. Nevertheless, we try to provide some values for each stylus in the list.
For the first time, we are also including Chromebooks in the Q4 2022 update of this list, as there are now professional graphics editing programs such as Krita for Android and ChromeOS. The following table only lists devices that we have tested extensively. The reports are linked in the table.

Note: The switch to a new rating system took place in June 2024 . In the new v8 rating, the criteria were adapted to current hardware developments, new points were added and individual measurement methods were changed. As a result, the v8 ratings are slightly lower than under v7. The new v8 rating is not directly comparable with previous versions. For this reason, we are listing two tables with the best devices according to v7 and v8 rating here for the time being. Further information on the new v8 rating can be found here.

The table above shows an overview of the best convertibles for stylus input tested by Notebookcheck in the last 12 months and relevant devices that are still available. More recent tests are ranked first with the same rating. Link: all tested devices in this class
Editorial comment
Our top list includes both laptop convertibles, i.e. notebooks with a 360° hinge, and Windows tablets, which become convertibles when the keyboard is docked. Which class you prefer is up to the user. On a positive note, most of the following devices are very quiet.
The question of whether or not a stylus is included with the device is very difficult. If in doubt, it is essential to ask the respective retailer. There is also uncertainty about the pen functions. Even the manufacturers themselves were unable to provide us with any information when we asked about pen tilt support. The same was true when we asked about support for pens from other providers.

Details here
1st place - HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14
The HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is a convertible with a 14-inch OLED touchscreen that offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz as well as high brightness and strong color reproduction values. The large AdobeRGB color space is almost completely covered and reproduced very accurately. The DeltaE2000 is well below 3.
The OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor from the latest Lunar Lake generation, which delivers solid performance for office applications and occasional video editing.
The battery lasts almost 14 hours in the Wi-Fi web surfing test. The casing is made of an aluminum alloy and is very light at 1.3 kg. In terms of data connections, it only offers USB-C ports, two of which support Thunderbolt 4. There is also a 3.5 mm headset socket.
Overall, the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is a promising convertible with a great display and solid performance, which is characterized by its low weight and long battery life.
2nd place - Dell Latitude 7350 Detachable
The Dell Latitude 7350 Detachable is a 2-in-1 tablet that is characterized by its flexibility and long battery life. With its 13-inch touchscreen and detachable keyboard, it can be used as both a tablet and a laptop. The battery life is over 10 hours in the WLAN test.
The high-resolution IPS screen with 2,880 × 1,920 pixels offers good color space coverage and is also bright enough for working outdoors at around 500 cd/m². The device is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 164U processor, which may not be the fastest, but is perfectly adequate for most tasks.
The casing is made of aluminum and magnesium. It offers two Thunderbolt 4 ports via USB-C as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The test device also comes with a suitable stylus. This is located in a corresponding recess in the detachable keyboard. However, the flat shape of the digital stylus sometimes results in poor ergonomics.
3rd place - HP Envy x360 2-in-1 14 (2024)
A slim aluminum casing, a colorful OLED screen, a decent keyboard and a not quite as powerful Intel Core Ultra 5 from the U series - a good convertible almost doesn't need more. The HP Envy x360 comes with out of the box. We also find a stylus in the scope of delivery. The HP MPP 2.0 with position detection offers a pleasant feel. But the lightweight 2-in-1 laptop also offers a good sound, quiet fans and an excellent battery life. If the performance of the Intel 4-core graphics is sufficient, the decision for the HP Envy x360 is an easy one. Intel's small graphics chip from the current processor generation is not really suitable for gaming in our current test.
The Envy x360 2-in-1 14 impresses with its versatile design, low emissions and economical power consumption.
The only real point of criticism of the HP Envy is ultimately the Intel Core Ultra 5 125U and its cooling. HP clearly gets too little out of the processor and squanders a large part of the convertible's potential performance.
4th place - LG Gram Pro 2-in-1
Even thinner, even lighter and still one of the most powerful LG Gram we have ever had the pleasure of testing. That makes the current LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 is. The OLED panel, speakers and battery are top notch! The included LG Pen charges wirelessly on the laptop and the black lacquered magnesium casing has its charm. Because the Gram Pro 2-in-1 is less than 15 mm thick, it really feels like a tablet in tablet mode. When lying on the table, the laptop is thinner than many a writing pad. This contributes to optimal ergonomics and haptics.
LG takes the Pro in the name of the LG Gram Pro seriously and offers a well-rounded overall package that clearly stands out from the "standard" Gram.
The only thing missing here is a card reader to be able to quickly edit images and videos on the laptop. Due to the high computing power, the laptop has to dissipate a lot of heat. This is partly done via the casing. The LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 quickly becomes very warm under high load.
5th place - Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1
The Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1 is a business convertible, ideal for anyone who is often on the move. With its 14-inch touchscreen and flexible design, it can be used as both a laptop and a tablet. The Intel Core Ultra 7 165U vPro processor provides plenty of power for everyday work, and with over 10 hours of battery life, you can easily get through the day. The aluminum casing is robust and looks elegant.
The display is bright enough for most tasks and the color reproduction is superb. There are two negative aspects. The display reacts comparatively slowly and the webcam could be a little better. Overall, the Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1 is a reliable companion for anyone looking for a flexible and powerful device.
6th place - Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 G9
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2in1 G9 is a powerful business convertible with a 14-inch OLED touchscreen and a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels. The display is razor-sharp and offers excellent color reproduction up to the AdobeRGB color space. At 120 Hz, the refresh rate is super-smooth, which is particularly noticeable when scrolling or watching videos, but also has a positive effect when working with the stylus. The X1 2in1 G9 is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor from the Meteor Lake generation. Although this is not the absolute performance guarantor, it is sufficient for office applications and the like. The case is typical ThinkPad: robust, high-quality and in a plain gray. Lenovo has given the X1 2in1 G9 a new keyboard, which is great for typing. The touchpad is now haptic, i.e. without moving parts. This may feel unusual at first, but it works perfectly. Of course, all the important connections are also on board, including Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI. The only downside is that the excellent stylus can no longer be stored in the casing. Overall, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2in1 G9 is a top modern convertible with a fantastic display.
7th place - Dell Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme
The Dell Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme is a rugged tablet that is perfect for use in the field, e.g. for field engineers or assembly workers. With its 10-inch touchscreen and durable casing, it can withstand dust, water and shocks. The screen is bright enough to be easy to read even in bright sunlight and the color reproduction is decent for an outdoor tablet.
The device is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor, which offers sufficient performance for most tasks. The battery life is rather moderate at three to six hours in the Wi-Fi web surfing test. But the Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme has a trick up its sleeve here. Both batteries are plugged in and can also be swapped during operation.
The Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme offers all the important connections, including two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a USB-A port. An optional detachable keyboard is also available, which transforms the tablet into a laptop, as well as a corresponding stylus.
The only point of criticism is the somewhat heavy weight, especially with the keyboard attached. The tablet is also less suitable for creative use due to the relatively small display size and average color space coverage.
The Dell Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme can only be ordered directly from Dell at present. Various configuration options ensure a wide price range from 2,700 euros to over 4,200 euros.
8th place - Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 (14IML9)
The Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 (14IML9) is a mid-range convertible. The screen offers a Full HD resolution under glass. The color reproduction is good, but the brightness could be a little higher, especially as reflections interfere with readability here.
The Yoga 7 is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 5 125U processor, which offers sufficient performance for everyday tasks such as surfing the internet, office applications and video streaming. The device is less suitable for more demanding tasks. The battery life in the WLAN test is over 16 hours.
The casing is made of aluminum and is kept in a plain grey. The keyboard offers a pleasant typing experience and the touchpad is precise. The Yoga 7 offers a good selection of ports, including Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI.
Overall, the Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 is a solid convertible notebook with a good price-performance ratio. It is suitable for anyone looking for a flexible device for everyday use.
9th place - Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid 2-in-1
With Android and Windows, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid 2-in-1. As a detachable, the device can also replace a Android tablet. Equipped with a powerful Meteor Lake processor, its performance is impressive. Intel's Core Ultra 7 155H also offers good graphics performance.
The excellent OLED screen is also suitable for professional image editing. However, the device's disadvantages lie in a completely different area. With Android and Windows, the ThinkBook Plus Hybrid may be functionally well positioned, but Lenovo has apparently been looking for the egg-laying wool-milk sow. The detachable is quite heavy for a 14-inch laptop, the hinges are difficult to align properly when connecting the base and screen, the battery life under Windows is rather modest and, last but not least, the operating system determines which ports are available. There is no image output via USB-C at Android, for example. Lenovo's list price for the device in our test configuration is 2,750 US dollars.
Overall, the detachable is interesting, but it is more likely to appeal to people who are enthusiastic about unusual technology.
Lenovo does have a product page for the ThinkBook Plus Gen5 Hybrid. However, it does not seem to be possible to order the product just yet.
Rating version 7:
Asus ROG Flow X13
Gaming laptop, creative station and compact convertible, the Asus ROG Flow X13 offers itself as an all-in-one solution. Convertibles with a dGPU are rare, making the gaming convertible from Asus an oddity in our list of the best. Only the ExpertBook B6 Flip stands out here as a similarly strong representative.
The Asus ROG Flow X13 is a powerful convertible with an AMD processor and Nvidia graphics and is one of the few representatives in its class.
The ROG Flow X13 has a powerful screen with DisplayP3 coverage and an excellent keyboard. With its powerful Ryzen 9 7940HS and the RTX 4060, the convertible leaves little to be desired in terms of computing power. The convertible's battery runtimes are also reasonable.
Lenovo Yoga Book 9i 2-in-1 Dual Screen
With the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i you can see twice as much. The convertible comes with two very good OLED displays that provide a lot of usable screen area. Both fully cover all important color spaces. However, the Yoga Book with its unusual concept is not quite fully developed. In the test, we found too many software bugs, while the hardware runs well and delivers strong performance. However, Lenovo has since rectified the software problems as far as possible.
The Yoga 9i 2-in-1 is the most elegant and high-quality dual-screen subnotebook that we have been able to test so far. Unfortunately, the device's software is still in need of significant optimization.
Disappointingly, the subnotebook also has many points of criticism, especially when it comes to the input devices. The wireless keyboard feels very clunky and the supplied software for the keyboard for the second display is cumbersome. With the successor model, there is hope that the street price of the Yoga Book will drop significantly in the 2023 version.
HP EliteBook x360 830 G10
The HP EliteBook x360 830 G10is the latest version of the compact convertible series for travelers and business customers. With its slim aluminum casing, the convertible makes quite an impression and also offers a high level of connectivity. The 2-in-1 laptop from HP is therefore probably the biggest competitor to the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga G4which currently leads our top list. We can only notice a clear difference between the two devices in terms of volume.
In the business convertible class, the EliteBook x360 830 hardly stands out from its strong competitors.
Real negative points are only sporadic and hardly affect everyday use. The SSD of this notebook is slow, the RAM is soldered and the screen resolution is limited to WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), which is significantly less than many other modern laptops.
