Ranking: Best 2-in-1 laptops with pen support
Q1 2025 update.
Many modern notebooks feature touchscreens, but only a few support stylus input. This article highlights the best-rated convertibles and 2-in-1 tablets that offer full stylus compatibility.Marc Herter, ✓ Sebastian Jankowski (translated by DeepL / Ninh Duy) Published 🇩🇪 🇳🇱 ...
Convertibles are valued for their versatility, functioning as both a notebook with the benefits of a physical keyboard and as a tablet with a touch-enabled display. Some of these devices also support active pens, making them ideal for graphic designers, image editors, and digital artists. They are also well-suited for taking handwritten notes. This article ranks recently released convertible PCs that support active pens.
A high-quality display is the most important feature for artists. Additionally, a convertible should have long battery life and a lightweight design for optimal mobility. Devices in this list are ranked based on these criteria. However, we do not evaluate the quality of the stylus itself, as this is often subjective and difficult to measure. Nevertheless, we provide relevant details for each stylus included.
Since Q4 2022, Chromebooks have been included in the list, as professional graphics editing programs such as Krita for Android and ChromeOS are now available. The following table only includes devices tested by Notebookcheck.

Note: The transition to a new rating system took place in June 2024. In the updated v8 rating, certain criteria were adjusted to reflect current hardware developments, new factors were introduced, and some measurement techniques were modified. As a result, v8 ratings are slightly lower than v7 ratings and are not directly comparable to previous versions. For this reason, we currently provide two tables: one listing the best devices according to the v7 rating system and another for the v8 system. More details on the v8 rating system can be found here.

Editorial comment
Our top list includes both laptop convertibles, which are notebooks with a 360° hinge, and Windows tablets, which become convertibles when a keyboard is attached. The choice between these two categories depends on individual preferences. A notable advantage is that most of the listed devices operate very quietly.
Determining whether a stylus is included with a device can be challenging, as availability varies. If uncertain, it is essential to check with the retailer. There is also a lack of clarity regarding specific pen features. Even manufacturers often cannot confirm details such as pen tilt support or compatibility with third-party styluses.
Rating version 8:
1st place - HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14
The HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is a convertible with a 14-inch OLED touchscreen that features a 120 Hz refresh rate, high brightness, and strong color reproduction. It covers almost the entire AdobeRGB color space with high accuracy, achieving a DeltaE2000 well below 3.
Powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor from the latest Lunar Lake generation, the device delivers solid performance for office applications and occasional video editing.
The battery lasts nearly 14 hours in the Wi-Fi web surfing test. Its aluminum alloy casing keeps the weight low at just 1.3 kg.
For connectivity, the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 relies solely on USB-C ports, with two supporting Thunderbolt 4, along with a 3.5 mm headset jack.
Overall, the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is a well-balanced convertible with a high-quality display, strong performance, a lightweight design, and long battery life.
2nd place - Dell Latitude 7350 Detachable
The Dell Latitude 7350 Detachable is a 2-in-1 tablet known for its flexibility and long battery life. Featuring a 13-inch touchscreen and a detachable keyboard, it functions as both a tablet and a laptop. In the Wi-Fi browsing test, the battery lasts over 10 hours. The high-resolution IPS display (2,880 × 1,920 pixels) offers good color space coverage and reaches a brightness of around 500 cd/m², making it suitable for outdoor use.
The device is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 164U processor, which, while not the fastest, is sufficient for most tasks.
Its casing is made of aluminum and magnesium, contributing to a sturdy yet lightweight design. Connectivity options include two Thunderbolt 4 ports via USB-C and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The test unit includes a stylus, which fits into a recess in the detachable keyboard. However, the flat shape of the stylus can sometimes make it less ergonomic to use.
3rd place - HP Envy x360 2-in-1 14 (2024)
A slim aluminum casing, a vibrant OLED screen, a solid keyboard, and an Intel Core Ultra 5 from the U series—there’s not much more a good convertible needs. The HP Envy x360 delivers exactly that, right out of the box. A stylus is also included, with the HP MPP 2.0 offering position detection and a comfortable feel. The lightweight 2-in-1 laptop further impresses with good audio, quiet fans, and excellent battery life. However, its Intel 4-core graphics chip is not well-suited for gaming in our tests.
The Envy x360 2-in-1 14 stands out for its versatile design, low emissions, and efficient power consumption.
The only real drawback is the Intel Core Ultra 5 125U and its cooling system. HP fails to maximize the processor’s potential, leaving a significant portion of the convertible’s performance untapped.
4th place - LG Gram Pro 2-in-1
Even thinner, even lighter, and still one of the most powerful LG Gram models we have tested—the LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 delivers on all fronts. The OLED panel, speakers, and battery are top-notch. The included LG Pen charges wirelessly on the laptop, and the black lacquered magnesium casing adds to its appeal. At less than 15 mm thick, it truly feels like a tablet in tablet mode. When lying on a table, it is even thinner than many writing pads, enhancing both ergonomics and usability.
LG takes the "Pro" in the LG Gram Pro seriously, offering a well-rounded package that clearly stands out from the standard Gram lineup.
The only notable omission is a card reader, which would make quick image and video editing more convenient. Due to its high computing power, the laptop generates significant heat, some of which is dissipated through the casing. As a result, the LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 quickly becomes quite warm under heavy load.
5th place - Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1
The Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1 is a business convertible designed for professionals who are frequently on the move. Its 14-inch touchscreen and flexible design allow it to function as both a laptop and a tablet. Powered by the Intel Core Ultra 7 165U vPro processor, it delivers strong performance for everyday tasks.
With a battery life exceeding 10 hours, it can easily last through a full workday. The aluminum casing is both sturdy and stylish.
The display is bright enough for most tasks, and color reproduction is excellent. However, there are two drawbacks: the screen response time is relatively slow, and the webcam quality could be improved. Overall, the Dell Latitude 7450 2-in-1 is a reliable choice for users seeking a powerful and versatile business device.
6th place - Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 G9
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2in1 G9 is a high-performance business convertible featuring a 14-inch OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels. The display is razor-sharp and delivers excellent color accuracy, covering the AdobeRGB color space. With a 120 Hz refresh rate, scrolling and video playback are exceptionally smooth, and stylus input benefits from improved responsiveness.
Powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor from the Meteor Lake generation, the X1 2-in-1 G9 offers sufficient performance for office applications and everyday tasks.
The casing follows the traditional ThinkPad design—robust, high-quality, and finished in a minimalist gray. Lenovo has introduced a new keyboard that enhances the typing experience, while the touchpad now uses haptic feedback instead of moving parts, which may take some getting used to but functions seamlessly. The device includes all essential ports, such as Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI. However, a notable drawback is that the excellent stylus can no longer be stored within the casing.
Overall, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 G9 is a modern convertible with a stunning display and a well-rounded feature set.
7th place - Dell Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme
The Dell Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme is a durable tablet designed for fieldwork, making it ideal for field engineers and assembly workers. Its 10-inch touchscreen and rugged casing provide protection against dust, water, and shocks. The screen is bright enough for outdoor use, ensuring good readability even in direct sunlight, while color reproduction is decent for an outdoor tablet.
Powered by an Intel Core i7 processor, it delivers sufficient performance for most tasks. Battery life ranges from three to six hours in the Wi-Fi web browsing test, but the device compensates with a dual-battery setup that allows hot-swapping during operation.
The Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme includes essential connectivity options, such as two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a USB-A port. An optional detachable keyboard can transform the tablet into a laptop, and a compatible stylus is also available.
The main drawbacks are its relatively heavy weight, particularly with the keyboard attached, and its limited suitability for creative work due to the small display size and average color space coverage.
The Dell Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme is currently only available for order directly from Dell DE. With various configuration options, prices range from 2,700 euros to over 4,200 euros.
8th place - Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 (14IML9)
The Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 (14IML9) is a mid-range convertible featuring a Full HD display under glass. While color reproduction is good, brightness could be higher, as reflections can impact readability.
Powered by an Intel Core Ultra 5 125U processor, the Yoga 7 delivers sufficient performance for everyday tasks such as web browsing, office applications, and video streaming. However, it is less suited for demanding workloads.
The aluminum casing has a simple grey finish. Battery life exceeds 16 hours in the Wi-Fi browsing test. The keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience, and the touchpad is precise. The device includes a good selection of ports, such as Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI.
Overall, the Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 is a solid convertible with a good price-performance ratio, making it a great choice for users seeking a versatile device for daily use.
9th place - Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid 2-in-1
The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid 2-in-1 combines Android and Windows, functioning as both a detachable laptop and an Android tablet. Powered by Intel’s Core Ultra 7 155H from the Meteor Lake generation, it delivers impressive performance, including solid graphics capabilities.
Its OLED display is excellent and well-suited for professional image editing. However, the device has notable drawbacks.
While offering both Android and Windows, Lenovo seems to have aimed for an all-in-one solution but introduced compromises. The 14-inch detachable is relatively heavy, the hinge mechanism can be tricky to align, battery life under Windows is unimpressive, and port availability depends on the active operating system—USB-C does not support image output when running Android.
Lenovo lists this configuration at $2,750, making it a niche option. Overall, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is an intriguing device but is best suited for those who appreciate unconventional technology.
Lenovo has a product page for the ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid, but it does not appear to be available for order at this time.
Rating version 7:
1- Asus ROG Flow X13
The Asus ROG Flow X13 is a unique all-in-one device, serving as a gaming laptop, creative workstation, and compact convertible. Convertibles with dedicated GPUs are rare, making this gaming-focused model an outlier in our rankings. Only the ExpertBook B6 Flip offers comparable power in this category.
The ROG Flow X13 is a high-performance convertible featuring an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS processor and an Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU, making it one of the most powerful devices in its class.
It boasts a high-quality display with DisplayP3 coverage and an excellent keyboard. Despite its strong performance, battery life remains reasonable for a device of this caliber.
2 - Lenovo Yoga Book 9i 2-in-1 Dual Screen
The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i offers a unique dual-screen experience with two high-quality OLED displays, providing a large and versatile workspace. Both screens fully cover all essential color spaces, making them well-suited for professional use. However, the device's unconventional design is not without flaws. While the hardware performs well, early software issues hindered the experience. Lenovo has since addressed many of these problems through updates.
The Yoga Book 9i 2-in-1 stands out as the most elegant and premium dual-screen subnotebook we have tested. However, significant software optimization is still needed.
One major drawback is the input experience. The wireless keyboard feels clunky, and the virtual keyboard software for the second display is cumbersome. With the next-generation model on the horizon, there is hope that the 2023 version of the Yoga Book 9i will see a significant price drop.
3 - HP EliteBook x360 830 G10
The HP EliteBook x360 830 G10 is the latest iteration of HP’s compact convertible series, designed for business users and frequent travelers. Its slim aluminum casing gives it a premium feel, while its strong connectivity options make it a direct competitor to the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Yoga G4, which currently tops our list. The most noticeable difference between the two devices is in noise levels.
In the business convertible segment, the EliteBook x360 830 G10 does not stand out significantly from its strong competitors.
There are only a few drawbacks, none of which severely impact everyday use. The SSD is relatively slow, the RAM is soldered, and the display resolution is limited to WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), which falls short of many modern alternatives.
