RDNA 3 price cut: AMD seemingly helping retailers drop RX 7000 GPU prices
Over the past few days, we’ve seen RNDA 3 GPUs go down in price. From the RX 7700 XT to the RX 7900 XTX, almost all mid-range and high-end RX 7000 GPUs have now dropped in prices with cards like the RX 7800 XT and the RX 7900 XTX enjoying record-low rates. In our reporting of these discounts, we argued that, although AMD hasn’t officially announced any price cuts, these deals could be de-facto price adjustments by the company.
Thanks to a leak by Moore’s Law Is Dead, we now know that AMD is “finally considering dropping RDNA 3 pricing officially”. So, Team Red could soon announce new MSRPs for their RX 7000 GPUs.
Additionally, MLID’s “Major Retailer” source also confirmed that AMD “seems to be facilitating” behind-the-scenes price adjustments for the RDNA 3 boards. This could be the reason why we are seeing the RX 7000 series discounts mentioned above.
Now, one might ask: Why is AMD suddenly reducing the prices of their GPUs?
One possible answer to this question is the impending launch of the RDNA 4 cards which is expected to take place in early 2025. Logically, AMD needs to ensure demand for new GPUs and one way to do this is to eliminate RDNA 3 stock.
Another reason could be an excess supply of RDNA 3 GPUs. MLID claims that Navi 31-based boards like the RX 7900 XTX and the RX 7900 XT aren’t selling well. If true, AMD will want to move the excess inventory by pricing the GPUs down to more lucrative levels.
Regardless of the reasons for the price cuts, this is a good development for gamers who have been burnt by an arguably mediocre generation of GPUs.
