The AFMF 2 or AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 became available for the Strix Point lineup. YouTuber ETA Prime has tested it with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, and the Radeon 890M can offer nearly 2x higher FPS with the new frame generation tech.

AMD has recently made the technical preview of AFMF 2 available for the Strix Point lineup. With this, the new Zen 5 chips got support for the newest frame generation technology, which is paired with the company's new VGM tech. In the announcement, AMD promised that Fluid Motion Frames 2 would offer a noticeably better gaming experience, and ETA Prime has put it to the test.

The laptop that ETA Prime has used to test out AFMF 2 is the new Asus ProArt P16, which features the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. It sports the top-end RDNA 3.5 iGPU, the Radeon 890M. ETA has allocated 4 GB of memory to this integrated graphics, but the new Fluid Motion Frames tech also brings VGM.

As AMD described, Variable Graphics Memory (VGM) auto-allocates memory to the iGPU by considering the mode selected. Other than that, ETA Prime has put Search Mode to "Standard" and the Performance Mode on "Performance." With these settings, ETA first ran Forza Horizon 5 at 1200p and medium visuals.

Before turning AFMF 2, the game was averaging 86 FPS, but it later jumped to an average of 136 FPS. Next, ETA ran Elden Ring at 1080p and medium graphics settings. Without the frame generation tech on, the game averages at around 45 FPS, but with it, the average jumps to about 85 FPS.

ETA Prime has also tested Fallout 4 at 1600p and ultra settings. With AFMF 2 turned on, the game averages at around 84 FPS, and before, it was about 54 FPS. As the YouTuber notes, all these games were tested at 45W TDP, and it would've been possible to get more out of the Radeon 890M at a higher TDP.

Another thing worth noting is that AFMF 2 is also available on the last-gen RDNA 3 iGPUs, which include the Radeon 780M found in handhelds like the Legion Go and ROG Ally Z1 Extreme (curr. $549.99 on Best Buy).
