Polestar 2 vehicles will receive a significant over-the-air (OTA) update this month. The update, P2.0, brings Android 11 to the EV alongside several feature improvements.
Android 11, the latest Android Automotive OS, will bring new Google Play store app categories to the electric vehicle, such as parking and charging. It's worth noting that Android Automotive is not the same as the Android Auto smart driving companion; it's a fully-fledged underlying operating system for the car. Polestar also says that the new OS will enable future features, though it did not specify what these might be.
The car's functionality has been improved, with connectivity stability upgrades and boosted radio reception. The EV's GPS location and navigation stability have also been enhanced, removing any interruption caused to the navigation when switching between profiles.
Upgrades within the Polestar app include a real-time charge status while topping up your battery and a steadier lock status. The climate timers have also been upgraded to provide more frequent status updates.
The Polestar 2, launched in 2020, has always run on the Android OS, starting with version 9, then moving onto Android 10 in January last year. This OTA update will be the eleventh to be released for the Polestar 2.
