New Lexus RZ 450e teaser picture shows the interior and butterfly steering wheel of the upcoming electric SUV
Just like basically any other automaker, the luxury brand of the largest automobile manufacturer in the world is diligently working on the long-awaited launch of its very first all-electric SUV, which in comparison to the wildly popular Hummer EV will, of course, be much smaller and as elegant as other Lexus vehicles. Roughly two weeks before its official reveal, the company has now released a new and quite interesting teaser picture of the Lexus RZ 450e.
In an official press release, Lexus has shown off the cockpit of its very first electric SUV which apparently also includes a potentially controversial design choice. Similarly to the Tesla Model X and Model S, the Lexus RZ 450e is apparently equipped with a yoke or butterfly-shaped steering wheel, which has not proven to be particularly practical among Tesla drivers. However, the aforementioned teaser image is prominently missing in the German press release, which suggests that the Lexus RZ 450e might not feature this oddly-shaped steering wheel in all markets.
Besides the new teaser image of the interior, it is already known that the RZ 450e will be based on Toyota's new e-TNGA platform, which means that Lexus' very first EV is likely equipped with a 71 kWh battery that should provide estimated ranges of around 250 miles per charge. The electric SUV is further expected to feature an all-wheel drivetrain with a rather conservative 214 horsepower. We will report on the remaining technical details and specifications of the Lexus RZ 450e as soon as they are revealed at the official launch on April 20.
