Philips Hue has officially launched the Play wall washer in countries worldwide. This smart lighting product leaked in an Amazon UK listing earlier in June 2025, revealing many of its specifications.
The Hue Play wall washer is designed to enhance your movie watching or gaming experience, throwing colorful lighting effects onto a wall. As such, it should be placed vertically next to your TV or sofa. It is worth noting that the Hue Play wall washer cannot provide sync lighting effects unless you also purchase the Hue HDMI Sync box (8K version curr. $349.49 at Amazon).
When connected to a Philips Hue Bridge, you can remotely control the Hue wall washer through the brand’s app. Here, you can select from a wide range of colors and lighting effects and dim or brighten the lights. The Bridge also allows you to connect this device to other smart home products to create wider lighting scenes. The integrated LED light source is expected to run for 25,000 hours, delivering up to 1,035 lumens brightness. Philips claims that this makes it twice as bright as other wall washing lights.
The Play wall washer’s ColorCast technology is said to provide “deeply saturated gradients of color, with a wide beam angle to cover a large section of your wall. This is a Hue White Color Ambiance light supporting 2,000K to 6,500K color temperatures and offering a color rendering index (CRI) over 80. Plus, there is support for Bluetooth and Zigbee, and the lamp measures 6.2 x 3.6 x 3.0 inches (~15.7 x 9.1 x 7.6 cm).
It is available in matte white or matte black for $219.99/£169.99/€199.99. The company is also offering a two-pack for $384.99/£299.99/€349.99, meaning customers save $54.99/£39.99/€49.99. Both products come with a single power supply, with the 2-pack version powering both lamps simultaneously.
