The Philips Hue Smart Button v3 has been released. This smart lighting accessory arrives as a successor to the Smart Button v2, with the original version launched in 2019. This latest model has all the same features but a refreshed, more angular design.
The new Smart Button is larger than its predecessor, measuring 45 x 13 mm (~1.8 x 0.5 inches); the older model measures 32 mm (~1.3 inches) across. Like with the original, you can use the accessory to control your Philips Hue smart lights, switching them on or off or triggering a scene of multiple products. When connected to a Philips Hue Bridge, it supports up to 50 products. Plus, you can press and hold to dim or brighten the connected lights.
Users can adjust the settings of the Smart Button in the Philips Hue smartphone app, available for iOS and Android. It is portable, so you can move it between rooms, and it is magnetic, meaning it could be placed on a fridge. However, this new model does not come with the square wall mount accessory like its predecessor. There is Bluetooth and Zigbee connectivity, and it is compatible with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
This is a battery powered accessory, expected to run on a CR2032 battery for around two years. The switch itself comes with a two-year warranty and is said to work for 50,000 clicks. Like the original version, the button is only available in white with a glossy finish. You can now buy the new Philips Hue Smart Button for $32.99/£19.99/€21.99; while the product page does not show an ‘Add to Cart’ button, it can be added to your basket from the product list. In the UK, this makes it £2 more expensive than the older version, but the RRPs are identical in other European countries.
