Oukitel has now revealed that its latest smartphone has the same screen size, SoC and ingress-protection features as Samsung's own newest rugged handset. Then again, the WP35 has a significantly larger battery, has more RAM and also more cameras. The OEM is busy teasing its world premiere with a mystery special offer.

The Oukitel WP36 has now officially been succeeded by the WP35, a smartphone that wants to take rugged tech in a different direction, as suggested by its name alone. It upgrades to 5G thanks to its MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ platform - just like the Samsung Galaxy XCover7.

Both smartphones have the exact same 2408x1080, 6.6-inch, 60Hz screen specs and Android 14 basis for their respective operating systems. However, Oukitel has now confirmed that the new WP35 has a much larger battery: 11,000mAh, compared to 4,050mAh in its Samsung rival.

The XCover7 still manages to be 10.2mm thick with that relatively tiny battery - however, the WP35 is touted as the thinnest smartphone with its capacity at just 4.7mm more. In addition, Oukitel has equipped it with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of expandable storage, compared to a more basic 6/128GB configuration in its Samsung rival.

The 2 cannot claim to look alike, however, with the Oukitel newcomer having a "luxury diamond"-patterned rear panel with an Honor Magic6-baiting camera hump.

On that note, the new Oukitel handset has 3 rear shooters to the XCover7's 1, although the OEM's claim that the WP35's max 64MP resolution is an advantage over the 50MP of the Samsung device remain to be seen.

The Oukitel WP35 is already listed on AliExpress for $296.99 - however, interested consumers might be advised to hold out until the phone's May 13-17, 2024 "premiere sale", whereupon it will be at least $70 less at a mystery price to be set somewhere between $109.99 and $199.99 at the event.

Meanwhile, the extra-loud WP36 is now available on Amazon for a similar price of $169.99.
