The next ruggedized enterprise-grade smartphone from Samsung has been thought to launch as the Galaxy XCover8 Pro - however, it will be the 7 Pro instead after all, according to a new leak from Android Authority.
The blog claims to have found that name ("xcover7pro") overtly referenced in code sent to it from a "reliable" source. It also contains what might be a potentially juicy hint as to the upcoming device's specs.
It is based on the discovery of a string reading siop_xcover7pro_sm7635, which is being taken to mean that the XCover7 Pro will run on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 (or Qualcomm SM7635) SoC, as opposed to the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ of the vanilla 7.
Should that observation prove accurate, it might mean that the 7 Pro will get a newer processor with more up-to-date 4 nanometer (nm) architecture and (mostly) faster cores that go up to 2.5GHz.
There are no indications that the "XCover7 Pro" will differ in any other respects from the existing 7 (currently available for $379.99 on Amazon), a device with a last-gen 6.6-inch LCD waterdrop-notch display that is nonetheless reinforced by high-end Gorilla Glass Victus, a 50MP rear camera and even its own microSD card slot.
