Using the Linux kernel 6.8.12-4 as a stable default with 6.11 as an option, Proxmox Backup Server 3.3 sports ZFS 2.2.6 support and is based on the Debian 12.8 "Bookworm" release. The list of changes also includes removable datastores support, new change detection modes and push direction for remote sync jobs, and more.

One week after the introduction of its Virtual Environment 8.3 open source solution, Austrian company Proxmox is back with the latest release of Backup Server, which is labeled 3.3. Just like its sibling, Proxmox Backup Server 3.3 is an enterprise product based on Debian 12.8 "Bookworm" and comes with the 6.8.12-4 Linux kernel as default and 6.11 as an option. Also, ZFS 2.2.6 is also supported out of the box, and compatibility patches for the 6.11 kernel are available if required.

In addition to the above, these are other highlights of Proxmox Backup Server 3.3:

  • Support for removable datastores.
  • New webhook notification target.
  • New push direction for remote sync jobs.
  • New detection modes for file changes that speed up file-based host and container backups.

Additionally, multiple improvements target general client and backend usability. Proxmox Backup Server 2.x can be upgraded to 3.3 with apt. This new Backup Server version allows for datastores to be used as storage targets in the Proxmox Virtual Environment but requires version 8.3. The downloadable files can be retrieved from this page. Subscriptions start at 520 euros annually.

Those looking for an enterprise-level hard drive can currently grab the 12 TB Seagate IronWolf Pro (ST12000NT001) for $229.99 instead of $249.99 off Amazon.
