OnePlus has updated its Nord series with two models today, which join a new Watch 3 variant, the Buds 4 and the Pad Lite in a joint release. In short, the Nord 5 is the more powerful of the two. However, the device shares many of its design motifs with the cheaper Nord CE5.
Specifically, OnePlus equips the Nord 5 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 that we have already tested in devices like the Poco F6 (curr. $345 on Amazon). Sporting an ARM Cortex-X4 Prime core clocked at 3 GHz, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 also features four Cortex-A720 and three Cortex-A520 CPU cores complemented by an Adreno 735 GPU.
For context, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 should see the Nord 5 coming up about 15% short of the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 13R in benchmarks because of the latter's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Conversely, the Nord 5 should enjoy a similar performance advantage over the Nord 4.
Other changes from the Nord 4 include a new 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate and a 450 PPI, but a 16% lower peak brightness at 1,800 nits. Also, OnePlus has included 50 MP rear and front-facing cameras for this generation with a larger 1/1.56-inch primary sensor too. For some reason, it has dropped 16 GB of RAM SKUs this time around although a 512 GB variant remains.
Battery capacity and charging has dropped from 5,500 mAh and 100 W to 5,200 mAh and 80 W on the global model too. Meanwhile, the Indian variant utilises a 6,800 mAh battery with the same 80 W charging capabilities. The Nord 5 starts at £399, €449 and INR 31,999 (~$373) with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage before rising to £449, €499 and INR 37,999 (~$443) for its 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB storage variant. Unfortunately, there is no word yet on the Nord 5 reaching North America.
