OnePlus has abruptly announced that the launch for its latest Android tablet in China will clash with that of Samsung's latest (and thinnest) flagship Android smartphone worldwide. The Pad 2 Pro is now slated to debut with a 144Hz display driven by the top-end Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. It might be available with more RAM and storage than its apparent rival handset.

OnePlus has just announced that its next new product will go to pre-order on May 13, 2025...a date also chosen by Samsung to formally unveil its new Galaxy S25 Edge smartphone.

Ironically, both devices are thought to be about as thin, at ~6mm in height apiece. They might also be powered by the same top-shelf silicon - however, the Pad 2 Pro will probably have the larger display of the 2.

OnePlus is still sparing on its details thus far - perhaps because it is now abundantly obvious that it is in fact a re-brand of the Pad 4 Pro from parent brand Oppo.

In that case, those who choose to buy the device as the Pad 2 Pro instead can expect that its "Original Color" display will be 13.2 inches in diagonal length and will be kept on by a 12,140mAh battery with support for 67W SuperVOOC USB-C charging.

It follows that the panel will very likely be IPS as opposed to the better chance of AMOLED in the S25 Edge - then again, the tablet will also probably have the faster refresh rate at 144Hz and the higher resolution at 3.4K.

OnePlus has at least revealed that its version of the 8 Elite tablet will be available in new brand-exclusive Glacial Silver and Deep Sea Blue colors, and can be reserved as an 8GB RAM/256GB internal storage base model in addition to a range of higher-end 12/256GB, 12/512GB and even 16/512GB alternatives (while the S25 Edge might offer the 12GB RAM options only).

There is no word as to whether this new and potentially improved OnePlus tablet will join the Pad 2 for the global market on Amazon or not.
