Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 is likely 20% slower than RTX 5070 Ti, Geekbench tests suggest

The Nvidia RTX 5070 is expected to be available on March 5, so this is about the right time for benchmarks to show up. The latest leak from Geekbench suggests that the GPU will likely be 20% slower than the RTX 5070 Ti. Being the cheapest of the four officially announced desktop GPUs in the RTX 50-series, the RTX 5070 is priced at $549 and even though it is the slowest of the four, Nvidia compares it to the flagship from the last generation – the RTX 4090.

The alleged Geekbench test results for the RTX 5070 show OpenCL and Vulkan test scores on a test bench that uses the Asus ROG Crosshair X870E Hero motherboard, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. While it is unclear what variant of the GPU this is, the OpenCL score is 187,414 while the Vulkan score is 188,712. In comparison, the RTX 5070 Ti scored in the neighborhood of 236,000 in Vulkan tests and around 240,000 in OpenCL tests. 

This is a bit over 20% performance difference in benchmark tests between the two GPUs, though it should be noted that these results may not be indicative of real-world gaming performance. Of course, the RTX 5070 Ti will be a bit faster than the RTX 5070, but the difference may not be as stark in games as in benchmarks. The RTX 5070 is powered by 6,144 CUDA cores with 988 AI TOPS Tensor cores while the Ti-variant boasts 8,960 CUDA and 1,406 AI TOPS Tensor cores. The 5070 also carries 12GB VRAM while the 5070 Ti features 16GB. 

Furthermore, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT was a bit slower than the RTX 5070 in similar Geekbench tests, but performance numbers shared by Videocardz suggest it may be better at running games than the RTX 5070, even though there hasn’t been a direct comparison between the two.
