Asus has just confirmed that its 2021 Android gaming phone, the ROG Phone 5, will launch on March 10, 2021. However, Nubia has ensured that the world will not forget about potential rivals for this device with an announcement of its own.
It is for the RedMagic 6 series, which is now officially slated to beat its Taiwanese competition to launch by 6 days. This generation of the gaming flagships - the only ones on the market to sport actual spinning fans - is rumored to be the first to have vanilla and Pro variants, which are expected to launch with 66W and 120W charging respectively.
Nubia's new teaser for the upcoming series hints at a number of improvements over the 5G/5S, which might include an enhanced touch-response for these phones. Otherwise, news or rumors on their displays have been remarkably quiet, hinting that the OEM might stick with 144Hz FHD+ AMOLED displays for these phones in 2021. Then again, those specs remain extremely high-end even for this year.
In addition, the RedMagic 6/6 Pro is touted to have an even more powerful fan, as well as a "nine-axis spatial sensor" that might improve gesture control or similar features. They are also projected to launch with a companion smartwatch for the first time, while the brand's new 65W GaN charger and CyberPod TWS earbuds might also be pitched at the phones' buyers on their release.
Finally, Nubia indicates that these phones will be launched in conjunction with Tencent, which is also Asus' partner for the ROG Phone 5. Therefore, the 6 (and potential 6 Pro) might arrive boosted by an expanded RedMagic ecosystem into the gaming-phone arena in 2021.
