8 GB and 12 GB of RAM has become commonplace among flagship and gaming smartphones, but few devices offer 16 GB or higher. In fact, only a handful of smartphones have been released with 16 GB of RAM, including the Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Mi 10 Ultra. However, ASUS' next smartphone may be the first to debut with 18 GB of RAM.
The smartphone in question is the ROG Phone 5, which ASUS will unveil on March 10. Previously, Geekbench had revealed that ASUS had developed ROG Phone 5 configurations with 16 GB of RAM, but four new ones suggest that there will also be at least one 18 GB SKU. The listings reiterate that the device, referred to by its model number I005DB on Geekbench, also has a Snapdragon 888 SoC.
Unsurprisingly, an additional 2 GB of RAM does not help the I005B outperform the I005DA in Geekbench. The two ROG Phone 5 variants are expected to have a 6.67-inch display and a similar camera setup to the ROG Phone 3. We already know that the ROG Phone 5 will have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a secondary AniMe Matrix display and an ESS Sabre DDAC too, courtesy of an early review by DxOMark.
