ASUS may not be announcing the ROG Phone 5 until March 10, but DxOMark has published a marketing render of the device in its 'Audio review'. It is unclear if this is a mix up on DxOMark's behalf or an intentional teaser by ASUS, but it is a strange place for the render to initially appear, nonetheless. Incidentally, DxOMark asserts that the ROG Phone 5 offers the finest audio experience of any smartphone, which is quite the accolade.
Unsurprisingly, the ROG Phone 5 has a Snapdragon 888 SoC, with which ASUS has paired dual front-facing speakers and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. DxOMark adds that the ROG Phone 5 possesses an ESS Sabre DAC, although it is unclear which model ASUS has chosen.
The ROG Phone 5 appears to have thinner top and bottom bezels than its predecessor, giving it a more moderns look, in our opinion. Three rear-facing cameras remain though, of which the primary is a 64 MP Quad Bayer sensor. However, ASUS has replaced the RGB ROG logos with a secondary display, presumably a smaller version of the AniMe Matrix display that it uses in the ROG Zephyrus G14.
The ROG Phone 5 is tipped to launch with a 6,000 mAh battery too, along with a 6.78-inch display and up to 16 GB of RAM. Pricing and availability are yet to be disclosed.
