The Asus ROG Phone 5 is already shaping up to be one of the most powerful phones of 2021, even though it hasn't launched yet. Not only will it arrive with a premium Android gaming device pedigree built up over the last few years, it is of course tipped to do so with the Snapdragon 888, Qualcomm's latest flagship processor. Furthermore, there are some hints that it might also be the first phone to break the 16GB RAM barrier and proceed directly to 18GB.
This new rumor may have been corroborated by the Master Lu benchmark's Weibo account. It claims to have tested a device called the "ASUS_I005DB", all but confirmed by TENAA to be a ROG Phone 5 SKU. This phone apparently has the 18GB of RAM indicated earlier on Geekbench, which netted it a score of no less than 947,284.
This score - made up of 321,067 for its CPU; 351,767 for its GPU; 140,455 for its storage and 133,998 for its groundbreaking new RAM quotient - also means that it now provisionally tops the Master Lu charts. Furthermore, the new leak may also reveal that Asus has combined it with 512GB of internal storage, and that the ROG Phone 5 may have a display of 2448 x 1080.
This all adds up to a new contender that might have even the new RedMagic 6 Pro, Realme GT and Meizu 18 Pro shaking in their boots, not to mention perhaps even the rumored OPPO Find X3 Pro. Then again, we still have to wait until March 10, 2021 for Asus to confirm or deny this potentially world-beating new leak.
