Chinese smartphone maker Nubia has unveiled its first direct alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (approx. $1,920 on Amazon). Priced at around $1,150 after currency conversion, the Nubia Fold is considerably cheaper than Samsung’s offering and is positioned as one of the most affordable foldables with such a large display.
The Nubia Fold features an 8-inch foldable AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels, complemented by a 6.5-inch secondary display with 2,748 x 1,172 pixels. Both screens support a 120 Hz refresh rate, though Nubia hasn’t disclosed brightness specifications. Its 6,560 mAh battery is remarkably large for a foldable and supports 55-watt charging via USB-C. Measuring 5.4 mm (0.21 in) when unfolded and 11.1 mm (0.44 in) when folded, the device is at least thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold6.
The Nubia Fold is relatively lightweight at 249 g (8.78 oz), though its chassis is only rated IP54 and thus not fully waterproof. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, the foldable promises high-end performance. Both displays come with a 20 MP selfie camera, whilst the rear camera module features a 50 MP main shooter, a 50 MP ultrawide camera, and a 5 MP macro camera. Other highlights include a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power/lock button, and an Android 15-based operating system optimised for multitasking and gaming.
Price and availability
The Nubia Fold will launch in Japan on 4 December at ¥178,560 (around US$1,149), available exclusively in black with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Nubia has yet to reveal pricing and availability for other regions.
