New iMac with 32-inch Mini-LED display rumored to launch in 2025
The M1 iMac has been a fairly successful replacement for Apple's older X86-based iMac all-in-ones (AIOs), but critics often point out one sticking point: the screen size. Apple only sells the M1 iMac with a 24-inch display. In the past, the Cupertino colossus offered two options for the iMac's display size, but no longer. However, Apple may launch a larger display size option in 2025.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning to release a 32-inch Apple Silicon-powered iMac desktop in 2025. What's more, the new large iMac will opt for a Mini-LED display instead of the IPS LCD used in the current 24-inch model.
Apple will likely keep the pixel density (measured in pixels per inch, or PPI) similar between the two devices, as the company likes to advertise its "Retina" branding. Considering the 24-inch iMac's display is 218 PPI with a resolution of 4480 x 2520, its feasible the 32-inch iMac could have the same resolution as the Pro Display XDR (6016 x 3384), which would give it a pixel density of 218 PPI. It may be that Apple uses the Pro Display XDR as the basis for the larger iMac.
Of course, all of this is speculation and rumor at this point. However, rumors about Apple developing a 32-inch iMac swirled this past summer, with analyst Mark Gurman mentioning that Apple was actively developing such a device in his Power On newsletter. Like Kuo, Gurman posited that the larger iMac would launch in 2025 with the possibility of a late 2024 release.
