After the launch of the iPhone 15 series of smartphones, it was expected that Apple would announce new iPad models soon after. Indeed, Supercharged reports that Apple will introduce new iPad mini, iPad Air, and the entry-level iPad devices. The announcement could come as soon as Tuesday, October 17. Supercharged also reports that Cupertino won’t hold any special “flashy hybrid event” for the announcement but will rather disseminate the information through press briefings, YouTube, and the Apple website.
Additionally, 9to5Mac corroborates Supercharged’s report and claims that Apple will indeed announce the new iPad models this week with small spec updates. However, Supercharged and 9to5Mac’s claims have some strong opposition.
For starters, famed Apple Insider Mark Gurman maintains in the latest edition of his weekly Power On newsletter that, although he initially suggested Apple would release new MacBook and iPad devices this year, the “latest indications” point to Apple not launching updated MacBooks and iPads this month. When Apple does launch new iPads, Gurman believes the tablets won’t pack “updates of any significance”.
Adding to Gurman's report, Japanese outlet MacOTAKARA claims that Apple will not reveal new iPads but will release the next-generation Apple Pencil 3 instead which is pretty interesting, since the company hasn’t updated the Apple Pencil since 2018. The Apple Pencil 3 will reportedly feature replaceable magnetic tips.
Fortunately, these contradicting reports will soon be resolved, as we will get to know whether Apple announces new iPads or an Apple Pencil 3 or nothing at all in a few days.
