New Xiaomi Book S 12.4" details position the upcoming 2-in-1 as a Microsoft Surface Pro X competitor
Xiaomi has published EU Declaration of Conformity (CE) documentation for the Book S, a 12.4-inch tablet bearing the model number MIT2205-AA. Incidentally, the company recently published comparable documentation for the Electric Scooter 4 Pro, discussed separately. In the case of the Book S 12.4", Xiaomi has included a hands-on picture, seemingly from a certification authority like the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US.
While Xiaomi has only provided one photo, it contains a few details that contained elsewhere in the CE documentation. Specifically, the Book S 12.4" has several pogo pins, flanked by two recessed apertures. Presumably, these elements will allow the Book S 12.4" to communicate with a detachable keyboard, mirroring the functionality included with the Pad 5 Pro. However, the Book S 12.4" also has a landscape-mounted front-facing camera, unlike the Pad 5 or Pad 5 Pro.
Hence, it seems that Xiaomi intends people to use the Book S 12.4" as a 2-in-1 first, not a tablet. Based on earlier leaks, the Book S 12.4" will run Windows 11 with a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 and 8 GB of RAM. As a result, all signs point towards the Xiaomi Book S 12.4" being a Surface Pro X competitor, rather than a tablet that Xiaomi intends to compete with the Galaxy Tab S8 Plus or Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Unfortunately, a release date for the Xiaomi Book S 12.4" is unknown at this stage.
