Redmi recently launched the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro, with the two devices being the company's first premium offerings. The "K" in the branding stands for "Killer" an allusion to the K20 Pro's supposed killer performance. The company is also heavily marketing it as a "Flagship Killer" too. That, of course, puts them at loggerheads with OnePlus, another Chinese company associated with the "Flagship Killer" title.
The company has taken to putting up gigantic billboards taking shots at OnePlus in India. "Starkly superior to the latest One," the ad reads. It becomes very obvious that it's directed at OnePlus. For one, "One" in the ad is written with an entirely different font and capitalization format, so we know it's a proper noun.
Oh, and the ads were all positioned right next to ads of the OnePlus 7 Pro, the latter of which shows famous actor Robert Downey Jr holding the device. Downey Jr is almost synonymous with Marvel's Tony Stark character, hence "Starkly".
There's also the fact that the source tweet by Xiaomi's VP, Manu Jain, reads, "'Starkly superior to the latest one' +1 if you liked these punny ads!" Reading that aloud gives you, "Starkly superior to the latest one plus one..."
The tweet goes on to confirm that the K20 and K20 Pro will soon be launched in India, to absolutely no one's surprise. The K20 Pro, in particular, will try to position itself against the OnePlus 7, since the OnePlus 7 Pro is a more premium phone by all metrics.
OnePlus has been the best-selling premium device in India for a while now and Redmi will be hoping to carve out a share of that pie for itself with the K20 Pro.
