The Redmi 7A may be this Xiaomi sub-brand's first truly budget device. It has been available in China for some time, and is now also to be released to the Indian market soon. This relatively new phone pushes the boundaries of what this price-range can offer in some respects.
The 7A does admittedly feature the same IPS-LCD HD+ 18:9 screen as its predecessor, the 6A. However, it also offers the Snapdragon 439 processor. This CPU has 2 of the same 2.0GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores as the MediaTek Helio A22 SoC found in the Redmi 6A; however, it also has 6 additional 1.45GHz Cortex A53s. It is claimed that this conformation makes the 439 up to 26% faster than the A22.
Redmi has also equipped the 7A with the Sony IMX486 12MP camera with 1.25 micron pixels that acts as a wide-angle lens in the brand's higher-end Note 7. For comparison, the 6A has an older 13 MP shooter, which has the same f-stop, as well as phase-detection autofocus, but no new-fangled AI updates or pixel-size specs.
The 6A comes in 2 SKUs: 2GB RAM with 16GB of storage, or 3GB with 32GB of storage. The 7A also offers 32GB of internal storage with some 2GB units. The 6A's base model started at the equivalent of US$95, whereas the Redmi 7A will start at INR 5799 (~US$85) on Flipkart when it is released for sale on July 11, 2019.
