With its Snapdragon 855 processor, in-display fingerprint sensor and 48MP main camera, the Meizu 16s is a 2019 flagship smartphone in its own right. An electronics blog claims to have found screenshots indicating that the e-store Taobao is preparing to sell Pro variants of this phone.

The Meizu 16s could be seen as somewhat of a renegade within the 2019 premium smartphone arena. It may rock a screen-to-body ratio of greater than 90%, but gets there via ultra-minimal bezels rather than punch-hole cameras, innovative pop-up modules or notches of any kind. Now, there are hints that its maker is planning an upgraded take on its hardware already.

It is difficult to see how Meizu could improve on the 16s (in terms of its specs on paper, at least). Nevertheless, ITHome claims to have uncovered a leaked shot of promotional material for its Pro variant, belonging to the e-commerce company Taobao.

An improved screen resolution is one of the most likely upgrades to be found in this putative Meizu 16s Pro: the original has an FHD+ 6.2-inch Super AMOLED screen. In addition, the top RAM SKU in this phone is 8GB at present: perhaps a 16s Pro would feature 12GB.

However, ITHome appears to propose that what is to be addressed in this rumored variant is in fact the lack of 5G. Then again, in the absence of verification directly from Taobao, this is nothing but pure speculation at this point.
