Many smartphone OEMs are turning to the water- or teardrop-shaped notch in order to maximize screen-to-body ratios in 2019. Meizu, however, is one that may address the resulting demand for fullscreen-as-possible displays through super-slim bezels. It has practised this art with the previous flagship 16 line. However, it may have perfected it in this year's variant.
Meizu normally tries to achieve an edge-to-edge illusion with minimal side bezels, and the smartphone forehead and chin to match. The effect turns out reminiscent of the LG flagships of the last few years. However, a new leak posted by the blog PlayfulDroid may indicate that this strategy has worked out in Meizu's favor this year.
It consists of a photo of a real-life device without a notch of any kind, but with bezels that look much like those of the Meizu 16X but smaller. The phone also shows a Chinese-language UI that could be Flyme OS, the OEM's custom Android skin. Therefore, it seems that the company has nailed its premium-tier design this year.
On the other hand, the phone does not seem to have the button layout of pre-existing 16-line phones or 16s leaks - in fact, it is hard to see any in the image. Therefore, it is just possible that this phone is in fact the Meizu Zero, a button-less concept device that flopped on Indiegogo earlier this year.
