Meizu has issued a new media campaign in order to draw attention to the launch of its next premium phone, the 17 5G. It is based on an image that may or may not confirm an important aspect of the supposedly Snapdragon 865-powered device's design. The OEM does indeed seem to be banking on this aspect of the 17 to build sales.

Meizu has revealed that it will launch its 17 5G on May 8, 2020. It has sent out what are being referred to as "press invites" to this effect, which consists of a box-like object with a horizontal cut-out. Its placement and orientation may hint at the appearance of the phone in question.

This new device has been rumored to come with quad rear cameras in a Samsung Galaxy S10-esque housing, which is what its "invite" could be getting at. This box also invites comparisons with a trash-can or a blast shield; however, according to the OEM, it is in fact a ballot box.

This ties in with the phone's new marketing campaign, revolving around the concept that its design will "win it votes". By this, Meizu presumably means consumers will do so with their wallets in its favor over other OEMs with phones running on the same Snapdragon 865 SoC with which the 17 5G is now also linked

Hopefully, this will work out, as these devices will include new and compelling options such as the iQOO Neo3 by the time the Meizu alternative is released.
