While the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 8 phones remain stuck on Android Pie, Xiaomi is already sending out a stable Android 10 build to owners of the cheaper Redmi 7A in China. The update is a 1.7 GB download and doubles up as the May security patch.

Xiaomi has sent out the Android 10 update to virtually all of its premium phones, but it's been an entirely different matter with its mid-range and budget offerings. Neither the Redmi Note 7 or Redmi Note 8 duos have received the Android 10 update. Surprisingly, though, the cheaper, budget Redmi 7A may have beat them to the punch.

The Redmi 7A is now receiving the Android 10 update, albeit only in Xiaomi's home China. The update carries the software version designation "MIUI 11.0.1.0 QCMCNXM" and weighs in at 1.7 GB. It's a stable update, and will likely roll out in batches.

The changelog is as follows:

  • Updates Google security patch for May
  • Improved system security
  • MIUI Stable version based on Android 10 deep customization

The fact that the Redmi 7A is now receiving the Android 10 update in China bodes well for global users of the device, as Xiaomi is known to send out global updates within weeks of the Chinese rollout. We expect the Redmi 7A to start receiving the Android 10 update globally later this month, or in July.
