The Honor 9X is coming on July 23 - Finally a worthy challenger to the Redmi Note 7 Pro?
Honor’s Honor X series is the company’s cash cow. The devices in the series have traditionally been positioned against Xiaomi’s Redmi Note phones, and that thread looks set to continue with this generation, as Honor has confirmed that the Honor 9X will be launched on July 23.
Usually, the Honor X phones are released around September, so this would be somewhat ahead of schedule. The Honor 7X was a breakthrough release back in 2017 and was our budget pick for that year. The Honor 8X succeeded it and did even better commercially, selling over ten million units in less than six months. Honor will be hoping to outdo that with the Honor 9X.
The teaser for the Honor 9X comes with the tagline “The Honor 9X is fast from the inside. Born to be low-key”. That likely alludes to the Huawei’s new Kirin 810, a chipset that has finally bridged the gap between Qualcomm and Huawei’s mid-range SoCs. The Kirin 810 outperforms Qualcomm’s top mid-range SoC, the Snapdragon 730, on many benchmarks.
Not much else is known about the Honor 9X but we expect a triple camera setup, likely comprising of a main shooter, ultra-wide angle lens, and depth sensor. A Pro model could also be on the cards, and that one is touted to feature four rear cameras. A pop-up selfie camera may be standard across the duo.
While previous generations of the Honor X series may have been disadvantaged when compared to Xiaomi’s magnum opus, the Redmi Note, the Honor 9X may finally see the scales tip in favor of China’s biggest smartphone company.
