The Honor 7X could get Android Pie after all - its second major OS update
Huawei’s sub-brand, Honor, released the Honor 7X in China back in 2017 and brought it to the US a few months after. The device ran on the Android Nougat-based EMUI 5.1 out of the box, but was updated to Android Oreo in Q2 2018. Apparently, that may not be where the 7X’s journey ends.
Users of the 7X in China are currently receiving a beta update to Android Pie, which is always a good sign. Unless something extraordinary happens, we expect the Chinese models of the device to receive the full, stable Pie update in a few months. Both the 7X and older Huawei flagships like the Mate 9 started receiving the Pie beta this week. The Mate 9 is billed to receive Pie in March, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Chinese 7X models get their full taste of Pie around then.
China isn’t the only market to get Huawei’s attention, either. According to Honor, users of the 7X in other parts of the world will get their first taste of Pie in Q2 2019, with the beta program expected to begin in June. A global rollout of the stable update may happen around August or September.
We’re not the biggest fans of Huawei’s updates but the company looks to be turning that around. Two major updates are as much as most flagships get—LG users may even dispute that—and it’s impressive that Huawei is doing the same for its lower mid-range phones. The Honor 6X, for example, received updates to both Nougat and Oreo.
