OnePlus has reportedly sent an email to Canadian customers advising them of a change in price for the 7 Pro, its current most premium device. It seems this phone is now CA$100 (or about US$78) less than it was at its launch in the country on May 17, 2019.
This discount applies to all SKUs of the 7 Pro: the entry-level version with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB in internal storage (6/128GB) is now CA$899, whereas the mid-range 8/256GB variants are $939, and the top-end 12/256GB units are $1009. This new structure also covers all the device's colorways, including the newest Almond edition now available in Canada (and also the US).
This sounds like a good deal, albeit one that could have worked out poorly for those who have already bought the 7 Pro in Canada. However, OnePlus' emails to these individuals also included details of a CA$100 cash-back program. It will bring their total payments to the company down to the 7 Pro's new price.
Therefore, those customers who purchased such a phone using a Canada-based payment system between May 17 and June 28, 2019 are eligible for this rebate. It is not clear why OnePlus has taken this step. One good explanation would be a corporate celebration of the national holiday that takes place on July 1 in this country; however, the OEM has yet to make the slightest mention of Canada Day on its official website.
Another is an attempt to make their pricing more consistent across national borders in light of the recent fluctuations in the USD/CAD exchange rate. However, the most straightforward and obvious motivation may be a need to boost sales of the OnePlus 7 Pro in Canada.
