While the OnePlus 7 Pro is an excellent device by all metrics, its most notable feature is its display, as it sports a 90 Hz QHD+ AMOLED panel, a feature that had yet to be seen on any non-gaming Android device. That feature put the 7 Pro in a niche of its own but has now been—mostly—implemented on the Mi 9, making the Xiaomi flagship an even more attractive prospect.
Of course, there are a few caveats. For one, the feature isn't implemented by Xiaomi. In other words, it's unofficial. There's also the fact that it takes the Mi 9's display refresh rate to 84 Hz. It's not quite the dizzying 90 Hz heights of the OnePlus 7 Pro, but it's a big improvement from the stock 60 Hz refresh rate.
The mod requires root access, of course, and works by flashing an image file that overclocks the display. It's unknown what effect it will have on the panel, especially in the long term—but hey, aren't mods like this exactly why we all love Android?
