New "Motorola Moto G22" leaks suggest a potentially interesting upcoming smartphone for under US$230
Signs of new additions to the often-popular Motorola Moto G series for possible release later in 2022 have now started to emerge. According to Nils Ahrensmeier of TechnikNews, this renewed product cycle might start with the G22, which could be a new variant coming in just above the entry level within the series.
This apparent successor to the Moto G20, in the absence of a G21 (maybe the existence of Nokia's version has shunted this naming scheme ahead?) is now slated to launch with a 6.5-inch panel. Despite this reasonably generous size, it is also now projected to be HD+ in resolution and LCD to boot.
The display is at least now rumored to be 90Hz - which, in fainess, might have approached standard issue for more smartphone tiers by now. The processor now said to drive this panel might also drive interest in the G22: it might be a heretofore unheard-of MediaTek Helio G37, and, thus, a potential upgrade on something like the G35.
Then again, it seems it, like much of its SoC line, will be 4G/LTE-only. Then again, it might help the "Motorola Moto G22" last a long time per charge, with a rumored 5,000mAh battery. The leaks also point to an f/1.8 50MP main camera - then again, this is a spec that seems to have trickled down in 2022, particularly as it is slated to come with the almost inevitable 8MP ultrawide-angle and 2MP macro lenses..
Finally, the Moto G22 might gain an edge in its sector from an Android 12-based OS out of the box. And the price for all this (according to Ahrensmeier at least)? - ~€200 (~US$227), for a 4GB RAM SKU with 64GB of expandable storage.
It is predicted to come in either White, Cosmic Black and an Iceberg Blue that might be the colorway shown in the world's first G22 alleged render, posted earlier by Evan Blass under the rumored code-name hawaii+. Then again, there is no word on when this potential new standard in affordable phones will be available.
