TCL has announced the most budget variant of its latest 20 5G smartphone series. The new R model offers a 6.52-inch display driven by a 4,500mAh battery and runs on Android 11. Then again, the OEM has modulated its specs in order to launch it at an attractive price in Europe.

TCL has made the latest addition to its 2021 line of smartphones official. The 20 R is pitched as a budget handset with some fan-favorite specs, which almost inevitably include a flat-edged design, 5G and a 90Hz refresh rate for its decently large display.

On the other hand, the spec applies to an HD+ panel, imbued with first-party NXTVISION technology rated for eye safety- and clarity-boosting prowess. The up-to-date connectivity is derived from a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor, which might be powerful enough for the 20 R's target sector. Then again, it is paired to just 4GB of RAM in the new TCL phone, along with 64GB of internal storage.

The OEM has prepared a narrow camera hump for the 20 R that will stand out in terms of this style. Nevertheless, the lenses found within are nothing special at 13+2+2MP. Their housing is found near a physical fingerprint sensor, on rear panels finished in dark blue or gray.

The TCL 20 R 5G will come with Android 11 out of the box, which will get just one official major update. The phone will get 3 years' worth of security-patch upgrades, at least. This new option in the European smartphone market is slated to go for €179 (~US$212) at the end of September 2021.
