TCL's 20 L series: the world's first smartphones with Circular Polarization Display technology
TCL has just unveiled fresh members of its display-centric 20-series smartphones during its April 2021 "Display Your Greatness" international launch event. They include the line's flagship, the 20 Pro 5G, which has launched with second-gen NXTVISION technology and TÜV Rheinland-approved eye-safety treatments.
They have gained the 20 Pro 5G the new top spot in DxOMark's rankings. This 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel is driven by the Snapdragon 750G SoC and 6GB of RAM. The phone also has quad rear cameras with a 48MP main shooter.
TCL calls its remaining new phones the 20 L and 20 L+, even though they are in truth 4GB and 6GB RAM variants of the same Snapdragon 662 device. They also have 6.67-inch FHD+ displays, although they are IPS-LCD and 2.5D-curved where the 20 Pro has 3D edges.
Nevertheless, this 20 L series remains TCL's inaugural line of Circular Polarization Display phones. This adaptation has been developed for improved readability outdoors in direct sunlight, and may also delight users who don't want to take their sunglasses off to see their screens.
The new TCL 20 phones are available across Europe from now. On that note, the OEM mentioned a 20 S (a third L variant with a different and as-yet-unspecified chipset for the US market) during its latest show, although it has yet to expand on when it will go on sale.
As for the 20 Pro 5G, 20 L and 20 L+, they are priced at €549 (~US$657), €229 (~$274) and €269 (~$322) respectively. They all run on TCL UI over Android 11, although the 20 L apparently only gets 1 major upgrade.
