Rumor | Xiaomi is working on a 4G/LTE-only POCO M4 variant

A new device, purportedly from Xiaomi, has appeared on Geekbench. Its combination of a novel model number and well-worn specs have led to rumors that it is a new addition to the POCO M4 series, albeit without 5G connectivity. Accordingly, it might be a pre-existing Xiaomi device rebranded to fit this description.
A phone called the Xiaomi 2201117PG has appeared on Geekbench 5 with a MediaTek MT6781 (or Helio G96) processor and 6GB of RAM. Nothing very strange or unusual, to be honest - except for the name slated for this device in recent leaks.
According to Xiaomiui, this phone is in fact destined to become a POCO M4 - albeit a new version that, obviously (based on its chipset) is 4G/LTE-only. The blog also asserts that it is to be a re-branded Redmi Note 11S, which does have a very similar model number (2201117SG), if a different code-name (miel, whereas that of the "4G M4" is fleur).
Therefore, this would be an odd move on Xiaomi's part, as the Note 11S has been confirmed to sell in a number of markets, India included. That market is also destined for an impending POCO M4 Pro 5G launch soon. Then agian, perhaps this "M4 4G" will indeed be a new way to buy the older Redmi phone, with the obligatory re-styling to match its new brand.

My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
