Realme 8i specs revealed: MediaTek Helio G96, 120Hz screen, 50MP triple rear cameras, and more
It's been a while since MediaTek announced the Helio G96 chipset for mid-range smartphones. While its hardware is identical to that of the Helio G95, it improves upon some under-the-hood specs. The real-world performance of both chips should be similar on paper, at least. We will find out soon enough, as the Helio G96 is slated to debut alongside the Realme 8i. Realme is expected to unveil the smartphone sometime in September 2021.
The information comes from veteran Twitter leaker @OnLeaks and Digit India. Leaked Realme 8i renders show us that it will ship with three rear camera modules, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 16MP hole-punch selfie camera. A 50MP sensor of unknown make will spearhead the camera array, supplemented by a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. Other Realme 8i specs include a 6.5-inch FHD panel clocked at 120Hz, a 5,000mAh battery, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage.
The Realme 8i's naming suggests that it will be a watered-down version of the Realme 8. However, Realme has ensured that both phones offer unique features, effectively preventing them from undercutting each other. For starters, the Realme 8 ships with an AMOLED panel. The Realme 8i is unlikely to follow suit and instead could offer a high-refresh-rate LCD alternative. Additionally, the Realme 8 has an ultra-wide-angle lens and a slightly better primary camera sensor.
