Huawei has confirmed that the new Watch Ultimate Design Royal Gold Edition will be released globally. The premium smartwatch was recently on show at a launch event for the Mate X7 smartphone in Dubai. This follows the wearable’s late-November launch in China.
The Watch Ultimate Design Royal Gold Edition is described by Huawei as “a crown jewel on the wrist”. It has a predominantly purple design, with a 12-sided ceramic bezel, and 18K and 24K gold elements. The purple casing is made from a zirconium-based liquid metal, and there is a matching purple titanium alloy strap with 24K gold plating. The screen is protected by sapphire glass, and the watch measures 48.3 x 48.3 x 12.9 mm (~1.90 x 1.90 x 0.51 inches) and weighs 80.9 g (~2.85 oz).
Huawei’s new Watch Ultimate Design has a 1.5-inch LTPO 2.0 AMOLED display with 3,500 nits peak brightness. Users can choose from many watch faces, some of which are exclusive to this model. Features include eSIM calling with a noise-cancelling function, local music storage, and the ability to make contactless payments. Plus, the smartwatch offers GPS navigation, a Golf Course Mode (only available in some regions) and support for smart gestures. On top of this, it is suitable for diving, water resistant to 150 m, with sonar-based underwater communication as seen on Watch Ultimate 2. It should run for around 2.5 days with typical use with AOD enabled.
It is unclear precisely when the Huawei Watch Ultimate Design Royal Gold Edition will be released in markets worldwide. As a guide to its price, it retails for CNY 24,999 (~$3,529) in China. In Europe, the older Watch Ultimate Green with a titanium bracelet is priced at €899 (Amazon Marketplace).
