Satechi's new Mac mini dock has evidently been a while in the making, having been presented in November before being showcased again last month during CES 2025. Incidentally, Satechi's dock arrived shortly after RayCue's alternative (curr. $99 on Amazon), which the latter has since expanded with a second version.
Although RayCue's second Mac mini dock supports 40 Gbps NVMe SSD transfer speeds, the drive slot inside Satechi's 'Mac Mini M4 Stand & Hub with SSD Enclosure' peaks at 10 Gbps with compatibility provided for M.2 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 SSDs. The same is true of the dock's two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, which are flanked by SD 4.0 UHS-II and USB 2.0 Type-A connections that offer up to 2.49 Gbps (312 MB/s) and 480 Mbps transfer speeds, respectively.
In other words, Satechi's Mac mini dock has far fewer ports than the equivalent produced by RayCue, despite its $99.99 list price. With that being said, it contains a handy cut-out for triggering the mini-PC's power button, which many alternatives do not, RayCue included. Reportedly, Satechi is only selling limited quantities of its new dock before a full launch in March too. The dock remains available to purchase from Satechi's website at the time of publication, though.
