Third parties are gradually adapting their accessories to Apple's latest Mac mini, which is fast approaching three months old. While recent Mac mini generations iterated on the unibody design that Apple introduced in 2010, last year's release dropped in size to 127 x 127 x 50 mm as part of a full redesign.
Consequently, the Apple M4-based Mac mini (curr. $569 on Amazon) is incompatible with many existing accessories. In response, Kensington has released what it describes as a 'Security Mount' for Apple's most recent mini-PC, which it claims serves the following purposes:
The Kensington Security Mount for Mac mini has everything you need to secure your Mac. It can be used as a mounting bracket, locking kit, or both, and is custom designed to ensure a secure fit while providing convenient access to the power button and ports of Mac mini.
The Security Mount has an all-steel build that weighs 500 g and measures 141 x 137 x 70 mm, or 141 x 161 x 70 mm with its lock bar attached. In other words, Kensington's Mac mini accessory is almost as heavy as the device itself, which weighs 670 g or 730 g depending on whether an M4 or M4 Pro chipset is configured at the time of purchase.
The weight of the Security Mount does not include its bundled NanoSaver lock either, which has a 183 cm carbon steel cable and can be set to 1 of 10,000 possible combinations. The Kensington Security Mount for Mac mini is available to purchase from Apple for $69.95 in the US, £69.95 in the UK and €79.95 in the Eurozone.
