Apple is currently rolling out iOS 18.3, a 1.8 GB update that introduces a number of new features. However, most of these features pertain to Apple Intelligence, meaning they are only available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, and only in the USA for the time being. Apple Intelligence is expected to launch in Europe with the release of iOS 18.4 in April.
The update primarily includes improvements to the Notification Summaries, which came under heavily criticism late last year for AI-generated fake news. In iOS 18.3, the settings for Notification Summaries can be adjusted directly on the lock screen. A new icon makes it easier for users to distinguish the summaries from regular notifications. News apps will be excluded from the summaries for the time being in order to avoid generating false headlines.
Visual Intelligence can now create calendar entries directly when a poster or flyer is scanned with the iPhone's camera. Animals and plants can also be recognized and named. The calculator app now has the option of repeating a calculation by touching the equal sign again. The update also fixes problems with the keyboard and the music app. Lastly, Apple Intelligence will be enabled automatically for users new or upgrading to iOS 18.3, so all users who do not wish to have the feature active will have to disable it themselves via "Settings" and "Apple Intelligence & Siri".
