ColorWare is reissuing the current Mac mini as a Retro Edition, which is available in either beige or black. In addition to a matte finish, the aluminum housing of the mini PC also has CNC-milled vents, just like those found on computers from the 1980s.
The Apple logo on the top has been replaced by the colorful logo that Apple used from 1977 onwards. According to ColorWare, this is a "limited edition", but just how many units of the Mac mini Retro will be produced is not specified. International buyers should note that all warranty claims for this version of the Mac mini must be processed through ColorWare in the US rather than directly through Apple.
The hardware remains unchanged: The Retro Edition of the Mac mini is available with either an Apple M4 or Apple M4 Pro, and comes with 16 GB to 24 GB RAM and a 256 GB to 512 GB SSD. Three Thunderbolt 4 ports, one HDMI port and one Gigabit Ethernet port are found on the back, while the front has two USB-C ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Price and availability
ColorWare charges $300 more for the design adjustments compared to the list price of the regular Mac mini, so that the basic model with Apple M4, 16 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage has a price tag of $899 on ColorWare's online store. ColorWare also ships to numerous countries globally (see list here), but buyers must take into account additional costs for shipping and possible import fees.
