Garmin smartwatches get new options for data analysis
Starting now, Garmin users can analyze their workouts and track training progress without relying on the Garmin Connect cloud, thanks to a newly integrated tool. This not only expands functionality but also enhances data privacy.

Garmin Connect is a comprehensive and powerful ecosystem that enables users of compatible Garmin devices to track their training progress and long-term athletic development. While Garmin smartwatches can technically be used without syncing to Garmin Connect, recorded activities are stored locally on the device and can be accessed via USB. These files use a specialized but well-documented and readable format.

With Fit Dashboard, a free tool is now available that allows users to analyze these files—and therefore their training sessions—entirely locally, without relying on cloud services or subscriptions. That said, this approach is likely to appeal primarily to enthusiasts who prefer dedicated offline analysis over the convenience of cloud-based platforms. According to the developers, FIT files can be imported in batches, with duplicate detection included.

The interface supports visualization of trends such as heart rate data, and up to five training sessions can be compared side by side in charts. This functionality is particularly relevant for more advanced users seeking deeper insights into their performance. In addition, the tool provides summaries and visual trend analysis where applicable. Fit Dashboard is not limited to standalone use; it also supports exporting data for further processing, for example in CSV or GPX formats.
