Garmin pushes new diving features to wearables in latest update

Garmin’s Descent X50i, a watch-style dive computer, is currently receiving system software 5.12. This device was last updated in March 2026 with the version 5.09 release, bringing support for the Passcode function alongside other tools.
Now, with system software 5.12, users of the Descent X50i are getting three more features. The first is Dive Setup Sharing, a data transfer function, making it easier for users to copy information like their gas list and conservatism to a second Garmin computer. The watch-style gadget now supports Sidemount, notifying you of a pressure difference between two tanks. Plus, there is a new Redundant Time Remaining (RTR) metric, allowing users to see how much air time is remaining in the tank with the lowest remaining volumes.
On top of this, the new software for the Garmin Descent X50i is said to optimize the Gradient Factor 99% (GF99) data field when at the surface. It also improves the way in which safety stop information is displayed on the dive computer’s dynamic depth data screen.
In a post in the Garmin forum, a representative for the brand confirmed that system software 5.12 was now available for all users of the Descent X50i watch-style dive computer (curr. $1,499.99 at Amazon). Instructions for how to download and install this update can be found on the brand’s website.
