More Xiaomi devices explode, this time a Redmi 8 and Poco C3
It's starting to feel like something's up with Xiaomi's devices. Over the past few months, there have been multiple reports of Xiaomi phones going up in flames, first with a Poco X3, then with a Redmi Note 9 Pro right after. That doesn't appear to have been the last of the bunch either.
Yet another Xiaomi device has gone the way of flames. Two, in fact: a Poco C3 and a Redmi 8. As revealed on Twitter, the Poco C3 exploded while in the pocket of its owner, Shihabuddin, in India. The explosion appears to have dealt burns to the victim's leg.
While the shared images heavily indicate that the explosion started at the phone's battery, this case is a bit unlike others. Most notably, the device was in the owner's pocket when it exploded, which makes it unlikely that it was being charged. Similar incidences in the past have usually occurred during charging.
A Redmi 8 similarly went up in flames last week. While the tweet has now been deleted, screenshots show that the phone exploded and "heavily injured" the owner's four-year-old niece, with Xiaomi initially laying blame on the owner. We saw something similar with the Poco X3 incident. Xiaomi has since made a U-turn on the issue and will be replacing the device with a Redmi 9.
